Giannis Antetokounmpo Impresses in Heat Debut, Leads Team to 24-Point Blowout of Raptors
Intern reporter Su Jiawei / Comprehensive report

The Miami Heat opened their preseason on Wednesday (local time), with newly acquired superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo making his debut in a Heat uniform. In just 14 minutes of action, Antetokounmpo posted a perfect 3-for-3 from the field, tallying 9 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds to lead Miami to a 129-105 blowout victory over the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors, who reacquired Kawhi Leonard this offseason, did not play him in this game.
Antetokounmpo was traded away from the Milwaukee Bucks after years with the franchise, joining forces with Bam Adebayo and others in Miami. Under head coach Erik Spoelstra's system, he looks to forge a new path this season.
Making his Heat debut, Antetokounmpo quickly showed his adaptability, scoring 5 points and dishing out 4 assists in the first 7 minutes as Miami jumped out to a 41-23 first-quarter lead. He finished the game playing only 14 minutes, hitting all three of his field goal attempts and 3 of 4 free throws, accumulating 9 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds. Though his scoring didn't reach double figures, his efficiency and playmaking were impressive.
Miami did not rely heavily on its starters, with Spoelstra using 19 different players to test various lineups. Andrew Wiggins scored 12 points, Bam Adebayo added 10, and Tim Hardaway Jr. came off the bench to hit all three of his 3-point attempts, leading the team with 14 points. Seven Heat players scored in double figures as they cruised to a 24-point win.
On the other side, the Raptors also made a major offseason move by bringing back Kawhi Leonard, who led them to the 2019 NBA title. However, as he continues to ramp up, Leonard did not suit up for this preseason contest. Fans hoping to see Antetokounmpo and Leonard face off in their new uniforms will have to wait. The next meeting between the Heat and Raptors is scheduled for January 2027.
